What to do…
If you think you’ve found termites, avoid disturbing them further and investigating. Breaking open feeding sites or their mud tubes is likely to scare them off temporarily, making it more difficult to identify the problem or apply remedial treatments.
Spraying them with insecticide will kill the termites you hit, but will not eliminate them from the building or destroy the nest, making them likely to return, often in a different location.
Just give us a call. We’ll be around as soon as possible to investigate. If we do find termites, we’ll explain the situation, explain the process for eliminating the termites and protecting your home, discuss your termite treatment options and provide you with an obligation free quote.
Specialist Termite Control only provide termite inspection and termite treatment services. We’ve been helping Melbourne homeowners protect their property for over 25 years, treating thousands of homes. With Specialist Termite Control being recognised in the Pest Manager of the Year awards for consecutive years, you know you’re in safe hands
When we come around to investigate your problem, we carry out an initial inspection to confirm the presence of termites and the scale of the problem. This allows us to determine the best treatment options for your home. Once you agree to proceed, there are 5 steps to the process
Step 1: Sign a termite treatment agreement
This is an important first step, it makes sure that we have fully explained everything to you and that you fully understand what is involved.
Step 2: Carry out a comprehensive termite inspection
This is a formal and complete termite inspection that allows us to collate the detectable areas of termite activity, evaluate the level of damage, determine entry points and record the issues that may have led to the termite attack. This then becomes and important record for you (and us!).
Step 3: Eliminate active termites from the building
In many cases it is not possible to locate the termite nest responsible, so we have to treat the termites inside the building. There are a range of products available; termite baits, termite foams and termite dusts, but more often than not we recommend the use of termite baits as it ensures the colony attacking the home is eliminated, reducing the chances of another attack in the future.
Elimination of the termites from the property can take between a couple of weeks and a couple of months, depending on the species present, scale of the infestation and the products used.
Step 4: Install a termite management system
Install a termite management system around the property to prevent future termite attacks. Two types of management system can be used to prevent termite attacks on buildings; a liquid termiticide treatment to soil around and under the house (if there is a sub-floor) or the installation of a termite monitoring system.
Step 5: Regular termite inspections
Whatever the termite management system installed, regular termite inspections (at least once per year) are required to maintain the warranty on the termite management system.
Termite treatment options
There are a range of termite treatment options available, both for eradicating termites from buildings and for providing long term termite protection.
Many pest managers will have a favorite product and push that method as the only treatment option. At Specialist Termite Control, we do not have any allegiance to any particular type of product or company, which means we recommend the best option for your situations. Sometimes there may be more than one option for you to consider.
